LSU might not have an official hated rival these days, but former Texas A&M coach Jackie Sherrill is trying to slip the Aggies into that role.

During a radio interview earlier this week, Sherrill said A&M and LSU should play a primetime game on Thanksgiving night and said making the game a reality is already in the works.

"It's already been discussed," Sherrill said Wednesday. "It's been talked about. (SEC) Commissioner (Mike) Slive, they all have talked about it, and LSU and A&M is going to play on primetime on Thanksgiving night, because that game will draw more people than the Arkansas-LSU or Arkansas-A&M."

But that's not how LSU athletic director Joe Alleva understands the situation. In fact, the day after he got wind of Sherrill's words, he was quick to shoot them down.

"Well, that's totally wrong. I don't think Jackie knows what's going on," Alleva said on an interview found on Bayou Bengals Insider. "I don't think he's been at SEC meetings and I don't think he's knows what's up."

Alleva didn't deny that there had been talks about setting up a rivalry game between LSU and Texas A&M at the end of the season and even told the Baton Rough Advocate that the Tigers would dump Arkansas to accommodate that game.

However, Alleva stressed this week that the details of a potential game have not been worked out and that Sherrill was talking out of school.

"For us to play on Thanksgiving night after we've played a game the Saturday before, it depends on who the opponent is the Saturday before. It would depend on a lot of things," Alleva said. "We'll just have to see how it works out. But right now, nothing has been decided, I can assure you of that."
