Louisville may be without one of its top pass-rushers next season.

Miles Young, the father of Louisville outside linebacker Trevon Young, told the Courier-Journal that it is unlikely his son will suit up for the Cardinals during the 2016 season. Young suffered a dislocated and fractured left hip in the first quarter of Louisville’s Music City Bowl win over Texas A&M on Dec. 30.

Young had surgery on Dec. 31 and recovery is expected to take 8-12 months, but it’s not a sure thing that he’ll be able to return to full strength.

From the Courier-Journal:

Miles Young said that his son is expected to remain on crutches for about another five weeks but is doing well and experiencing no lingering pain in his hip following surgery on Dec. 31 to put his leg back in place and insert a plate around a chipped piece of his hip socket. Miles Young said that once Trevon is off crutches he can gauge his preparedness to rehab for football.

His father is confident that Trevon Young, who had a dominant midseason stretch of pass rushing for U of L this past season, will return to form at some point, though it's no certainty. Doctors said it's an uncommon football injury, so his son's playing future will be dependent on how well he heals and how well his therapy goes.

"Mentally he's hanging in there," Miles Young said. "I think he'll be fine. I really do. .... I truly believe he'll recover from this. He's a strong, young kid, a really strong, young kid."

Young was a breakout performer for Louisville as a junior, totaling 8.5 sacks, 32 tackles and 10 tackles for loss. His 8.5 sacks were second on the team and seventh in the ACC, forming a feared pass-rushing duo playing opposite Devonte Fields, who finished with 10.5 sacks and 22 tackles for loss.

Louisville finished 8-5 in 2015.
