LAPD investigating USC's Josh Shaw in possible domestic violence incident

The LAPD announced Friday that it was investigating whether USC cornerback Josh Shaw was involved in a domestic violence incident last Saturday.

Shaw, on the advice of his attorney, has decided not to speak with police anymore.

“We would have like to hear from Mr. Shaw to provide some clarity about the situation, but that is not going to happen,” Capt. John McMahon told the Los Angeles Times. "In light of that our investigation into a possible domestic dispute will continue."

Earlier this week, Shaw admitted he lied about injuring his ankles while jumping off a balcony to save his drowning nephew, however, didn’t provide any more insight into what actually caused his injuries.

The LAPD told Rivals.com site TrojansSports.com that Shaw was a subject in an ongoing investigation into a burglary at an apartment complex because his girlfriend told police he matched the description of a person seen fleeing the apartment complex and jumping from the third-story balcony.

McMahon told the Times that Shaw’s girlfriend had spoken to police, but did not indicate she was a victim of domestic violence. McMahon would not elaborate on what she did say in her statement.

Shaw's lawyer Donald Etra indicated his client "has already spoken to the LAPD twice. We believe that is enough. The matter is over and there is no need to talk to them further. ... Enough is enough."

Shaw, a team captain, is currently on indefinite suspension from the USC football program. His injured ankles would have kept him off the field for at least four weeks anyway. Coach Steve Sarkisian told media Thursday that there is a possibility that Shaw could return to the Trojans this season.

"When the time is right, if the time is right to bring him back, we will," Sarkisian said. "We're in holding. It's still ongoing."
