One of the more memorable press conference moments of the season came following Oregon’s win over Colorado on Saturday when 12-year-old Charlie Pape’ told Ducks coach Mark Helfrich that “Jesus, girls, and Marcus Mariota” were the only three of the four things people talk about at his school.

Pape’ was asking the coach if Mariota, Oregon’s star junior quarterback, would return for his senior season. Cameras were rolling for the moment, which quickly was all over the Internet.

Two days after he became the latest viral sensation, Pape’ appeared on a Portland radio station on Monday (while sitting in the Principal’s office at his school) to explain how it all happened.

“I was actually expecting on of the professional reporters to ask that question, they never did,” Pape’ said. “I decided, ‘Why don’t I?’ and that’s when I raised my hand.”

Helfrich told Pape’ that he was not sure what Mariota would do after the season ended. Pape’ offered his own take.

"If it was up to me and I was talking to him one on one, I'd tell him, 'Go pro, get your money, you can come back like Larry Fitzgerald and go to college after a couple of years in the NFL.' I say don't risk an injury, go pro."

That sounds like some pretty sound advice, especially from a 12-year-old.
