Keenan Reynolds sets records as Navy beats Pitt 44-28

Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds reclaimed a record he held just two weeks ago and set another one in Navy's Military Bowl win over Pittsburgh.

Reynolds' three touchdowns gave him the FBS record for career touchdowns (88) in the Midshipmen's 44-28 win over the Panthers and he also set the career rushing record for FBS quarterbacks with his 144 rushing yards.

Reynolds was passed by Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon for the total TD record last week when Dixon had four scores in the New Orleans Bowl. Two touchdowns for Reynolds on Monday would tie Dixon with 87 TDs while three would get Reynolds the record all to himself.

He got that third touchdown with a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter. The score, which came with 4:19 left, put Navy (11-2) back up 16 points on the Panthers (8-5). When Pitt QB Nathan Peterman threw his third interception of the day on the next possession, the chances of a comeback were over.

The total touchdown record does not count passing touchdowns. All of Reynolds' scores towards the record have been of the rushing variety – so yes, he also holds the career rushing touchdown record.

Reynolds, who finished fifth in the 2015 Heisman voting, set the rushing record earlier in the game. He entered the game needing 81 yards to pass former West Virginia quarterback Pat White and former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson (4,495 yards) for the mark. He did so easily.

Easily also describes the way the Navy offense sliced through the Pitt defense. The Midshipmen ran for 417 yards against the Panthers while Pitt's offense really never found a rhythm. After scoring a touchdown on the opening kickoff, Pitt didn't score again until the third quarter when the score was 31-7.

The Navy senior class also tied the 1909 senior class for the most victories by a class (36) at Navy. The Military Bowl win is the third-straight bowl win for the Midshipmen, who won 11 games for the first time in program history.

Pitt star wide receiver Tyler Boyd was the Panthers' most productive offensive player. He had six catches for 53 yards and five carries for 55 yards.
