Kansas QBs Cozart and Ford receive hardship waivers

Kansas will have quarterbacks Montell Cozart and Deondre Ford for an extra season each.

The two were granted medical hardship waivers by the Big 12 after suffering injuries in the 2015 season and will be considered redshirt juniors for 2016.

"It is great to see the Big 12 is giving Montell and Deondre a year back after both of these guys had their junior seasons end prematurely," Kansas coach David Beaty said in a statement. "They have worked tirelessly with our medical staff to get healthy and we are fortunate to have two more seasons with them in our program."

Cozart was the team's starter entering 2015 but was lost for the season after four games because of a right shoulder injury. He was 66-of-105 passing for 752 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception in 2015. Ford missed the majority of the season because of torn ligaments in his right thumb. He was 11-23 passing for 132 yards and a pick.

The injuries meant freshman Ryan Willis took over as Kansas' starter for the rest of the season. Willis was 164-315 passing for 1,719 yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The three will compete to be the Jayhawks' starter in 2016.
