Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin said he was hopeful that quarterback Johnny Manziel would be able to go against Vanderbilt and he confirmed to the SEC TV broadcasting crew that Manziel would start.
He looked good in pregame warmups, and did on the first drive. Manziel was 10 of 10 on the Aggies' opening drive, which ended with a touchdown.
Manziel hurt his right shoulder against Auburn last week after he landed on it while being tackled. He left the game and threw some warm-up passes on the sideline in pain, but after visiting the locker room he returned for the rest of the fourth quarter.
He started the week in a sling, and was officially deemed questionable for Saturday's game.
''We hope he goes,'' A&M offensive coordinator Clarence McKinney told the AP on Friday. ''But if he doesn't we can't cancel the game.''
No worries on that front.
