After serving a suspension from the Florida State baseball team for shoplifting crab legs, Jameis Winston will not face any additional punishment from the football program. FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher said Seminoles baseball head coach Mike Martin’s three-game penalty and Winston completing 20 hours of community service was sufficient.

“If he would have been in football only, he would have been suspended from football activities until we took care of all those things,” Fisher said, per CBS. “To him, that’s (missing baseball) just as devastating. They’re No. 4 in the country. He’s playing right field, he’s hitting, he’s the closer. Taking him out of three games until he got that done is no different than if he was in football.”

In light of the crab legs incident, Jameis Winston’s father Antonor Winston admitted that Florida State and he “probably kind of dropped the ball a little bit” on helping his son understand the constant spotlight that is associated with being a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback.

Antonor Winston also told USA Today that his son is “supposed to have somebody around him 24/7,” but a “source close to FSU” told CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd that he is not monitored 24 hours per day.

“The source said Winston is not monitored by the school 24/7 and that it would be almost impossible to do so. Two police officers accompany Winston during baseball road trips. They’re needed to monitor crowds who gather before games for autographs from Winston, who is more than accommodating.”

Winston was issued a civil citation for the shoplifting event, which occurred on April 29. He left the store with three pounds of crab legs and one pound of crawfish and told officers that he had forgotten to pay. He was suspended from the FSU baseball team the next day and missed a weekend series against Minnesota.
