Iowa State DL Brandon Jensen returns to football program after leaving in the winter

Brandon Jensen's absence from the Iowa State football program didn't last very long.

The defensive lineman has returned to the team after he told Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads he was leaving the team in December.

“We are obviously extremely pleased to have Brandon back with us next year,” Rhoads said in a statement. “He gives an immediate upgrade at a position we are very thin at. He also brings tremendous leadership and experience to his position group and our entire football team. Brandon is a hard worker and Big 12-tested. We are looking forward to him being a leader for us in 2014.”

Jensen started at nose guard for Iowa State last year and notched 18 tackles. His presence is an important one for the Cyclones' defensive line. Without Jensen, Iowa State had only one returning player in the middle of the defensive line with significant playing esperience.

The interior of the line is needed to tie up blockers and free Iowa State's defensive ends and linebackers to get to the quarterback much more often in 2014. The Cyclones had 15 sacks as a team in 2013. Only nine teams in FBS had fewer sacks.
