Did Iowa OL Brandon Scherff volunteer his punt catching services to Kirk Ferentz at all during the 2013 season?

After getting burned by fake punts, Ferentz threatened to not have his team return a punt any longer in October. But maybe all he needed to do was have 10 people look for a fake and Scherff back to fair catch the ball.

In a recent interview, Scherff said he went three-for-three in a punt-catching competition with DL Carl Davis in the fall.

"I caught all three and Carl missed all three, so it worked out perfect," Scherff said. He's been practicing his punt-catching form for a while too, so this isn't a newfound skill. This video from 2012, shows him cleanly catching a punt in a practice.

Maybe we can schedule a lineman punt-catching competition with Penn State? The Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions don't play each other at all in 2014, but they have a mutual off-date on October 4. Don't lie, if it was scheduled during the early kickoffs during the day, you'd watch.
