Even though Veterans Day isn't until next week, Iowa decided to honor the men and women of the military during Saturday's game against Michigan with a red, white and blue tigerhawk logo on the right side of the Hawkeyes' helmets.
The left side of the helmet was left black to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Perhaps the patriotic helmets helped inspire the play on the field as Iowa upset No. 13 Michigan 24-16. The Hawkeyes stopped Michigan on three tries inside the 5-yard-line in the final seconds of the game to preserve the victory.
The win was a nice rebound from last week's embarrassing loss to Minnesota.
The win makes Iowa bowl eligible and keeps the Haweyes in the hunt for the Big Ten Legends Division title and a spot in the conference championship game.
