Week 13 was hard on major Heisman hopefuls as three – yes, three – fell from their perches and left the door open for several other players who were on the outside looking in.
While it's never good to have a bad day as a Heisman hopeful, struggling this past Saturday stings just a bit more because Heisman voting opens Monday. The errors are still fresh and voters will be quick to cross those who can't finish strong off their list.
That means you Johnny Manziel, Marcus Mariota and Bryce Petty. Three hopefuls who not only saw their team's BCS prospects get washed down the drain on Saturday, but also likely their own hopes of hoisting the coveted bronze statue.
It's been awhile since one weekend has changed the Heisman landscape so much, but those who made it through have a much less crowded road to New York.
The slip-ups also opened the door for two off-the-beaten-path contenders to get into the mix. Here’s Dr. Saturday's Heisman Watch for this week:
- Sports & Recreation
- American Football
- Johnny Manziel
- Heisman Trophy
