Happy 237th birthday, America

Happy Fourth of July, everybody. Barring some breaking news, this is going to be a very light day on the blog, so let’s share a few America videos before we head out to picnics, baseball games and massive displays of pyrotechnics.

First off, we have the quintessential college football/America combination. Ricky Stanzi, you just won the Orange Bowl and got asked an awkward question. What do you have to say?

I also love this clip of Brit Stephen Fry attending the Iron Bowl from his series “Stephen Fry in America.” During it he manages to describe college football in perhaps the most perfect way possible:

“I really don’t know if anything sums up America better: It’s simultaneously preposterous, incredibly laughable, impressive, charming, ridiculous, expensive, overpopulated, wonderful.”

Tough to argue with that. Then Fry gets choked up during “God Bless America” and delighted by the flyover because War Damn Eagle.

I can’t think of any college football references in this movie but you shouldn’t go through a Fourth of July without it:

And again, this has nothing to do with college football, but it’s the best:

Have a safe and happy holiday, all.
