When Gus Malzahn does things, he does them quickly.

The Auburn head coach has become known for his “hurry-up, no-huddle” offense, but how does that philosophy translate to bingo?

Malzahn was willing to find out.

Al.com was on the scene when Malzahn volunteered some time at the Oak Park Nursing Home Wednesday for Auburn’s annual community service day where he called numbers for several games of bingo and joked with participants.

“I’ll slow down,” Malzahn said after calling another number. “That sounds like some of my players. We’re going too fast, we’ve got to slow down. Or it sounds like some of our opponents.”

Malzahn is poking fun at the rule that was proposed earlier in the year that required quarterbacks to wait ten seconds before snapping the ball. Some coaches cited health concerns stemming from fast-paced offenses, but the NCAA Football Rules Committee ultimately dropped the proposed rule on March 5.
