Georgia is applying for RB Todd Gurley's reinstatement

Could Todd Gurley be returning for Georgia's next game? The Bulldogs are wanting it to happen.

Georgia announced it will officially apply to the NCAA for Gurley's reinstatement Wednesday. The star running back has been suspended since Oct. 9 amid reports that he was monetarily compensated for his autograph. In a statement, the school said it hoped Gurley would be reinstated for the Nov. 1 game against Florida and Gurley said he took "full responsibility for the mistakes I made."

Here's the statement in full:

Since completing its initial review of the eligibility matter involving UGA student-athlete Todd Gurley on October 9, the University has been supporting Todd and cooperating with his legal counsel as they review the matter.

Todd has confirmed his desire to seek reinstatement, and the University fully supports Todd's request.  The University plans to file the necessary paperwork with the NCAA later today.

"I want to thank the University, coaches, teammates, and the Bulldog Nation for their patience and support," Gurley said.  "I take full responsibility for the mistakes I made, and I can't thank the University, my coaches, and teammates enough for supporting me throughout this process.  I'm looking forward to getting back on the field with my teammates."

Gurley's attorney, William King, said, "Todd has taken responsibility for his actions and is ready to rejoin his teammates.  The University has been great throughout the past two weeks and has done everything it can to support Todd.  I would especially like to thank President Morehead, Greg McGarity, and Coach Richt for standing by Todd."

The University hopes for and expects a prompt ruling by the NCAA so that Todd, his coaches, and teammates can adequately prepare for our next game.

Gurley reportedly took $400 for 80 autographs and was suspended after an autograph dealer confirmed to Georgia that he had paid the running back. Signed items by Gurley are on an authentication website along with thousands of signed items by Florida State QB Jameis Winston. FSU said last week that it hadn't found any evidence that Winston was compensated for his autograph.

While reports emerged after Gurley's suspension that he could miss the entire season, other reports at the time of the suspension said Gurley could miss 2-3 games because of the investigation. If Gurley is reinstated by the NCAA before the Florida game, he will have missed games against Missouri and Arkansas.

In five games this season, Gurley has 94 carries for 773 yards and eight touchdowns.
