Former women’s goalkeeper Mo Isom fails to make the LSU football roster – again

Mo Isom's second tryout with LSU ended the same way as the first — with Isom off the roster.

The former LSU women's soccer player took another stab at becoming one of the Tigers' kickers, but fell short. She also tried out in the spring, didn't make the roster, but was encouraged to get better during the summer and come back out in the fall. At the time, coach Les Miles said he had four kickers on the team that were going to be tough to supplant and noted that her physical limitations would be difficult to overcome.

"She's a great person, but there's some things she can't do and she knows it," Miles said in the spring. "We go to kicking off into the corner, we count on our kicker making some tackles and it's just not something I'm comfortable she's ready to do. It's one of those spots you really can't put a person that cannot tackle."

Isom, who was a standout goalkeeper at LSU, earned national attention with her pursuit to become the first female player in the SEC and just the second female player in the FBS behind former Colorado and New Mexico kicker Katie Hnida. She also earned the respect of several of the football players, who helped her train and publicly encouraged her. She gave a shoutout to those players on Twitter, praising them for their help and cheering them on for the coming season.

Miles didn't have much to say about Isom's tryout, though he did watch her on Wednesday. He told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that she "made a couple, missed a couple" but didn't offer much more of a critique.
