Former Texas RB Joe Bergeron allegedly punched female in October

Former Texas running back Joe Bergeron was dismissed in July by coach Charlie Strong for a violation of team rules and transferred to Texas A&M-Commerce.

He was indefinitely suspended and missed a game on October 11 but returned to play the next week. According to a police report obtained by Fox Sports Southwest, Bergeron allegedly punched and slapped a female at a fraternity house on October 9.

However, he is not facing any charges from the incident, and according to Texas A&M-Commerce athletic director Ryan Ivey, the school found the incident to not be as severe as the police report stated.

Bergeron and the alleged victim met outside the Kappa Alpha house and the friends of both had been in an argument earlier in the evening. The woman asked Bergeron to find his friend, who she believe to be the cause of the disturbance, and leave the party.

From FSSW:

Bergeron refused to leave and the alleged victim became angry, the report said. The alleged victim then claimed Bergeron placed his hand close to her face and said, '"-----, shut the ---- up! I was here first!"

Bergeron turned away from the alleged victim and ignored further demands to leave. She then "flicked" Bergeron's hat.

He immediately turned around and stated "If you touch me again, I'm going to punch you in the face."

The alleged victim told Bergeron he "could not treat a woman that way at this house" and again told him to leave. Bergeron ignored the alleged victim and her demands. She then knocked a cup from Bergeron's hand, which landed on the ground.

Bergeron then turned around and struck the alleged victim on the left side of her face with a closed fist, causing her pain, the report states.

Bergeron then allegedly slapped the woman after she decided to "fight back" after a shove.

The police report also details the woman's reluctance to press charges against Bergeron because of her knowledge of his status as a member of the football team and an unwillingness to be possibly focused on if Bergeron was disciplined. When fomer Missouri and now-Oklahoma wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham allegedly pushed a female downstairs in April, she was reluctant to file charges for similar reasons according to the police report of the incident.

Bergeron was one of many Texas players dismissed or suspended at the beginning of the 2014 season by Strong. At A&M-Commerce, he has 148 carries for 896 yards and 12 touchdowns. He's the Lions' leading rusher.
