Former South Carolina running back Kenny Miles shot during attempted robbery

Kenny Miles, a former South Carolina running back, was shot in Columbia, S.C. on Monday during an attempted robbery.

From The State:

Sgt. Curtis Wilson with the Sheriff’s Department said the shooting occurred about 1 p.m. in the 100 block of Centrum Drive, in the parking area of an office park near Broad River Road and Interstate 26.

Wilson said Miles was shot in the upper body. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified.

Miles had a football ring, cash and a watch with him, though nothing was taken. He was driven to the hospital. Coach Steve Spurrier said that he had heard from the team physician that Miles would be OK and that he was shot in the forearm.

Miles finished his career last year as a fifth-year senior. He moved into the starting lineup after Marcus Lattimore suffered a knee injury and missed the final four games of 2012. South Carolina football players received rings the past three seasons, and police said they did not know which ring Miles had with him at the time.
