Former Auburn tackle Greg Robinson posted some of the more eye-popping numbers at the NFL scouting combine and he did so with a head cold and pink eye.

According to a fantastic behind-the-scenes story by Dan Pompei on Sports On Earth, Robinson had been battling a head cold the week before the combine and had been popping decongestants to keep it under control. He got pink eye following his first night in Indianapolis while staying in a double room with Cal tight end Richard Rodgers at the Crown Plaza Hotel.

He was given eye drops and moved to his own room with no roommate.

Robinson, who was measured at 6-foot-5 and 332 pounds, benched 225 pounds 32 times, which was a feat considering his arms were 35 inches. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.92 seconds with a 10-yard split of 1.68 seconds. He had a broad jump of 113 inches, he had a vertical jump of 28 ½ inches and ran the three-cone drill in 7.80. All of the numbers blew scouts away.

And he managed all of this while ill. Imagine what he could do healthy?

Robinson wasn’t one of the big offensive linemen names heading into the 2013 season, but started to move up potential draft boards throughout the season as Auburn kept winning and running back Tre Mason and quarterback Nick Marshall kept bursting through the line untouched.

And the stellar season was needed for Robinson, who said his goal is to take care of his family.

Robinson’s father, Greg Blackledge, died last year. Blackledge supported the family financially with his pension, social security and disability checks after he was injured while working as a welder. Robinson has a tattoo of his father’s face on his right shoulder. Robinson’s mother Rhonda often looked to her son to help pay bills while he was in college.

After his performance in the combine, there’s little doubt that he’ll be able to give his family a better life.
