Texas A&M regent Jim Schwertner raised some eyebrows when he said he thinks Kyle Field should be renamed “Kyle Field: The House that Johnny Built” to honor former Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel.

The comment drew a mixed reaction from the A&M community and one former player who played with Manziel expressed his opinion on the matter on Twitter. Sean Porter, who played linebacker at A&M from 2009-2012 and currently plays for the Cincinnati Bengals, made it clear that he is not a fan of the idea.

While Manziel’s two seasons as starter were a huge boost for the A&M program, Porter is saying that adding “The House that Johnny Built” to the stadium name would discredit the hard work he and his teammates put in in the years before Manziel arrived on campus.

Interest in the program skyrocketed in the past two years, helping the program with its $450 million renovation to Kyle Field, but Manziel did not do it on his own.

The name change seems unlikely, but if it were to be considered, it would certainly draw the ire of many other former players.
