Could Michigan lose a second five-star recruit in two months?according to TheWolverine.com. Harris, a five-star recruit per Rivals, is the No. 5 prospect in the country and the top-ranked running back in the class of 2015.
2015 wide receiver George Campbell decommitted from Michigan in December. Campbell is the No. 7 recruit in the country and the top-ranked wide receiver.
Michigan hired offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier from Alabama on Jan. 8, shortly after the school had fired Al Borges. After Borges' dismissal, Harris expressed his surprise for the move on Twitter. That's probably why Nussmeier's first recruiting trip as Michigan's OC was to see Harris in his hometown of Berea, Ky.
When Harris first committed to Michigan, he cited former Michigan running back Mike Hart as inspiration for his commitment. As a junior in 2013, Harris ran 220 times for 2,621 yards and 42 touchdowns.
Since he's a member of the 2015 class, Harris has more than a year to make his decision before next year's National Signing Day. Rivals currently has Michigan listed as his only choice, but as news of his decommitment spreads, expect offers from other schools to pop up like weeds. Campbell currently has scholarship offers from 23 different schools.
According to MLive.com, Michigan has just four players committed for 2015. With Michigan following a 7-6 season in 2013, a rebound year is imperative for coach Brady Hoke to attempt to retain both Campbell and Harris and improve the recruiting class.
