Ezekiel Elliott endorses petition to change cropped jersey rule

A change.org petition to undo the NCAA's recent rule change to ban cropped jerseys got a visibility boost from college football's most prominent crop top jersey wearer.

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott, who last year tucked his jersey inside his shoulder pads to expose his abs and the pads on his back, retweeted the petition, which now has over 6,000 signatures.

In rule changes announced last week, the NCAA said Elliott and other players couldn't roll up and tuck their jerseys into their pads in 2015. If a player does so, he'll be sent to the sidelines and can't re-enter the game until the jersey is unrolled.

The listed reasoning for the petition is simple, though likely ultimately unconvincing.

Because Ohio State and football fans want to see their players continue to wear the things that have made them beloved by fans worldwide.

While petition movements on change.org have been successful in driving public discussion and showing support for or against something, it's important to reiterate that the existence of a petition doesn't guarantee anything will change. And it's highly, highly doubtful that the NCAA will see 6,000+ signatures on the rule and change it even with Elliott continuing to support it.
