Ex-UCLA QB Asiantii Woulard says he's transferring to South Florida

Asiantii Woulard is headed back to Florida.

Nearly a month after Woulard announced his decision to leave UCLA, the redshirt sophomore quarterback said Monday that he’s transferring to South Florida.

“I am very familiar with the team already, it's close to home and it's a great situation to come in and compete," Woulard told ESPN's Joe Schad. "USF is a program that has been waiting for something special and I want to help build that.”

A native of Winter Park, Fla., Woulard was a four-star recruit in the 2013 class and actually was verbally committed to the Bulls, but reconsidered his options when Skip Holtz was fired. Woulard later signed with UCLA on National Signing Day in February 2013.

He will have to sit out a season at USF due to the NCAA’s transfer rules and should have two seasons of eligibility remaining, beginning in 2016. In Willie Taggart’s two seasons as USF head coach, he’s used five different starting quarterbacks. Mike White, the most experienced of that group, transferred to Western Kentucky in the offseason, so Woulard should provide quite the boost for the USF offense.

In the meantime, Steven Bench and Quinton Flowers will compete for the starting role heading into the 2015 season.

Woulard was competing for the starting role at UCLA along with Jerry Neuheisel, Josh Rosen and Mike Fafaul. Rosen, the nation’s top quarterback recruit in the 2015 class, enrolled early as a true freshman, while Neuheisel threw the game-winning touchdown pass against Texas last season – so the depth chart was certainly crowded for Woulard.

During his two seasons at UCLA, Woulard did not see any game action.
