Ex-South Carolina QB Connor Mitch headed to James Madison

Mitch entered the 2015 season as South Carolina’s starting quarterback, but ended up missing most of the season because of a variety of injuries, including a separated shoulder and a hip infection that forced hospitalization. He saw action in only two games in 2015, completing 13-of-29 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 51 yards and a score.

Mitch was competing during the spring to regain his starting spot, but fell to No. 3 on the depth chart behind senior Perry Orth and true freshman Brandon McIlwain. Sophomore Lorenzo Nunez was also in the mix.

He announced his intent to transfer in May.

"I have enjoyed my time at South Carolina and will graduate later this summer," Mitch said when announcing his transfer. "I believe it’s in my best interest to continue my playing career at another school. I’d like to thank all the Gamecock fans for their support during my time in Columbia."

At James Madison, Mitch will likely compete for the starting job with junior Bryan Schor, who saw quite a bit of action in 2015 after Georgia Tech transfer Vad Lee was injured. Schor played in eight games – starting the final four – and threw for 847 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 351 yards and four scores.

JMU went 9-3 in 2015, losing to Colgate in the first round of the FCS playoffs. After the season, head coach Everett Withers left the program to take the head-coaching gig at Texas State. Withers was replaced by Mike Houston, who previously was the head coach at The Citadel.
