Don’t expect Notre Dame’s uniforms to change much with Under Armour
Notre Dame's traditional uniforms aren't going anywhere.
The school announced Tuesday that Under Armour would be its new uniform supplier and if you had any thoughts at all that Notre Dame could get a uniform redesign because of the new deal, think again.
"We're not anticipating doing anything unusual, crazy," Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank said at the announcement Tuesday. "We need to honor and respect the history of the university."
Breathe easy. Though the Shamrock Series uniforms could be pretty fun.
Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick called the deal the largest agreement between an apparel supplier and a university. It's a 10-year contract for all of Notre Dame's teams that also includes Under Armour stock options for the school.
Not coincidentally, Under Armour's stock price went up on Tuesday.
"We are thrilled to announce this partnership with Under Armour. It is a partnership that will benefit our student-athletes in a number of ways," Swarbrick said Tuesday. "The most obvious of those relates to quality and quantity of the world-class footwear, apparel and equipment Notre Dame will be able to provide to its student-athletes. And in as much as this represents the largest financial commitment ever made by a brand to a university, it will provide the critical resources we need to enable our student-athletes to compete at the highest levels."
Under Armour replaces Adidas as Notre Dame's uniform-maker. Adidas was with the school for 17 years. Before signing Notre Dame, Under Armour previously announced that it had reached an agreement with Navy. Other Under Armour schools include Northwestern, South Carolina and Texas Tech.
