A former Boise State football player is being extradited back to Idaho because of a felony charge that stems from a fight with a former teammate.

According to the Idaho Press-Tribune, Dereck Boles, a defensive tackle who was dismissed from the program in February for violating team rules, was arrested May 9 in his hometown of Lakeland, Florida, for an outstanding warrant from Ida County, Idaho.

The arrest warrant – for a felony charge of Mayhem – was issued April 4. In the state of Idaho, “Mayhem” is defined as an incident in which an individual “unlawfully and maliciously deprives a human being of a member of his body, or disables, disfigures or renders it useless, or cuts out or disables the tongue, puts out an eye, slits the nose, ear or lip.”

In the fight, Boles is accused of biting a teammate “on the ear, tearing a portion of the ear off,” according to a statement issued to the Press-Tribune. The other Boise State player involved in the incident, which occurred Feb. 12, has not been named. He was treated at a local hospital for non life-threatening injuries, the Press-Tribune reported.

Boles would have been a redshirt sophomore for the Broncos in 2016. In 2015, Boles played in all 13 games and finished with 11 tackles, four tackles for loss and one sack. He was expected to see an increased role in the upcoming season.
