Devonte Fields' assault charge dismissed

The legal wranglings surrounding Louisville DE Devonte Fields' assault charge appear to be over.

According to ESPN.com, the Tarrant County, Texas, District Attorney's office said the charges will be dismissed if Fields completes four anger management courses.

A trial was reportedly scheduled to begin in the case in two weeks.

Fields parted ways with TCU over the summer after the charge, which stemmed from an incident with an ex-girlfriend in July of 2014. He was accused of hitting her and threatening her. According to the police report after the incident, she thought he had a gun.

The 2014 preseason defensive player of the year in the Big 12 DPOY in 2012 initially intended to transfer to Stephen F. Austin, where he would be eligible to play immediately in 2014. However, that didn't materialize after the school said he didn't meet the requirement for a transfer waiver. Fields ended up playing at Trinity Valley Community College.

He announced his intention to play for Louisville early in 2015. He'll have two seasons of eligibility with the Cardinals.
