Deion Sanders Jr tweeted a photo of himself and several teammates at the event and that led the SMU compliance office to look into whether the players used their status as SMU athletes to get into the show.
The elder Sanders took a phone call from his son during a press conference in which he was discussing his high school football team, Prime Prep. After the call he shared his thoughts on the scrutiny.
“My son is at SMU. He just called me _ this is how stupid my life is _ he said the NCAA is investigating him now because I just took him to a Lil’ Wayne concert," Sanders Sr. said in a report by the Dallas Morning News. "Lil’ Wayne is one of my best friends and they’re trying to say that they got into the concert because they’re SMU football players. That’s how stupid the stuff is.”
SMU coach June Jones said he has had multiple conversations with Deion Sanders Jr. about the pitfalls that come with his father's celebrity status. Jones said he was not aware of SMU compliance looking into the matter.
