Colorado, UCLA, SJSU and Navy will honor Houston Texans OL David Quessenberry, who is battling cancer
Colorado, UCLA, San Jose State and Navy will all honor Houston Texans rookie offensive lineman David Quessenberry during their games this weekend.
Quessenberry was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma this past summer, and Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre, who coached Quessenberry at San Jose State thought this weekend would be a serendipitous time for all four teams to honor Quessenberry.
Why?
In addition to Quessenberry’s ties with the Colorado staff, many of whom were at San Jose State where Quessenberry started as a walk-on tight end and turned into a fourth-round draft pick, Quessenberry’s younger brother, Scott, is a starting offensive lineman for UCLA, the Buffs opponent this weekend.
Quessenberry’s other younger brother, Paul, is a starting defensive end at Navy, which plays San Jose State.
“All of them wanted to do something,” MacIntyre said. “All of them are into it. All of them believe in it and understand the battle ahead for him, but not just for DQ but just to kind of get the word out there about this. It hits home for us, especially our coaching staff and our players understand what it means to us, too. They’re fully behind it.”
Colorado players will wear a ‘DQ’ decal on their helmets.
Quessenberry, who is in the midst of his seventh round of chemotherapy, started a fund to help aid in cancer research. DQStrong 10 is a campaign that asks supporters to do 10 pushups for those fighting the disease and donate $10 to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
