Clemson’s Sammy Watkins out of the Chick-fil-A Bowl after the first play (VIDEO)

Sammy Watkins bowl season ended before it even got started.

On the second offensive play of the game, Watkins, Clemson’s most exciting player, got the handoff from quarter back Tajh Boyd and was hammered by LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo (thanks to throwtheflagblog for the video).

The hit was so vicious that the ball popped out and Watkins was left writhing on the turf.

He had to be healped off the field and ultimately carted to the locker room. Clemson announced that Watkins had suffered a right angle injury, but X-rays were negative. Still, the injury was severe enough keep Watkins out of the game.

He did return to the sideline using crutches for assistance.
