Cincinnati picked to win the American Athletic Conference

Cincinnati, one of three co-champions of the American Athletic Conference a year ago, was picked to win the conference in 2015.

The Bearcats earned 22 of the media’s 30 first-place votes. Memphis (5), Houston (2) and UCF (1) earned the remaining first-place votes. Memphis and UCF shared the title with Cincinnati a year ago.

However, there will be no co-champions this year as the AAC introduces a conference championship game now that its membership is complete. Navy joins the conference this season, which brings the total membership to 12. The Midshipmen were among the favorites to win the West Division, falling behind Memphis and Houston. Cincinnati garnered all but one first-place vote to win the East.

Cincinnati, Memphis and Houston all bring back their starting quarterbacks from a year ago — Gunner Kiel, Paxton Lynch and Greg Ward Jr., respectively. The trio represented three of the top four quarterbacks in terms of conference passer rating a year ago.

Navy returns Keenan Reynolds, who is highly regarded as one of the best Group of Five quarterbacks in the country and perhaps even a darkhorse Heisman contender.
