Case McCoy took a huge hit early in the Red River Rivalry (GIF)

The Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma is underway at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas and UT quarterback Case McCoy, who is filling in for a second straight week for starter David Ash, took an absolutely punishing hit from Oklahoma linebacker Eric Striker in the first quarter.

Striker, coming off the right side, basically clotheslined McCoy as he stepped up and delivered a pass downfield. Striker was penalized for a personal foul for roughing the passer on the play, but wasn’t given a penalty for targeting.

McCoy was shaken up momentarily, but did not miss a play.

Texas currently leads 10-3 in the second quarter after Chris Whaley – yes defensive tackle Chris Whaley – returned a Blake Bell pass 31 yards for a touchdown.
