Cal signs deal with Under Armour for uniforms starting in 2017

Cal is switching from Nike to Under Armour uniforms after 2016.

The school announced a 10-year $86 million deal with the school Friday. It goes into effect on July 1, 2017. Perhaps we can expect some loud uniforms from Cal in the future?

UC Berkeley is one of the world’s top universities and a standard bearer for academic excellence and athletic achievement," Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank said in a statement. "We share a mutual commitment to relentless innovation and believe we have found a perfect partner in the university. It's an honor to bring our mission for making athletes better to the Golden Bears. We look forward to collaborating with Cal Athletics and the entire campus for betterment in fitness, wellness, charitable and professional development in ways never done before by an apparel and footwear partner."

In addition to providing uniforms for Cal's sports teams, Under Armour will "also connect directly with the broader campus community by providing student internships, employment opportunities for UC Berkeley graduates, charitable partnerships and exclusive product discounts for campus departments" among other facets of the deal.

According to Under Armour, Cal is the 34th Division I school to sign with the apparel company and it's also the second Pac-12 team. Utah also has an agreement with Under Armour. Under Armour had reportedly bid for Texas' new apparel contract but the Longhorns re-upped with Nike.
