Boston College suspends Troy Flutie after arrest (Update)

Boston College announced Tuesday that Flutie has been suspended from the team.

"Troy has been suspended from the football team by Coach Steve Addazio pending further investigation and faces the possibility of additional University sanctions pending the outcome of the court proceedings," the athletic department said in a statement.

Flutie is due back in court on June 20.

Boston College wide receiver Troy Flutie was arrested for drunk driving over the weekend.

According to the MetroWest Daily News, the 20-year-old Flutie was arrested at 1:05 a.m. Saturday morning in Natick, Mass., and charged with “operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor, possession of an open container of liquor while driving and being a person younger than 21 in possession of liquor.”

Police said Flutie was pulled over after he drove into a curb. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Natick District Court on Monday.

Flutie played in eight games at quarterback as a redshirt freshman in 2015. He threw for 382 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while completing 24-of-49 passes. He also rushed for 33 yards. He moved from quarterback to wide receiver during spring practice.

Flutie is the nephew of longtime NFL quarterback Doug Flutie, the only Heisman Trophy winner in Boston College history.
