Notre Dame had a chance to rest up during a bye week following the Irish’s 37-34 victory over Arizona State at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Oct. 5, and thanks to that victory, we are treated to another edition of Trick Shot Monday.
This week, the Irish tried to sink a shot on the Pop-A-Shot machines in the team’s lounge area. Several Irish are unsuccessful, until walk-on defensive back Jesse Bongiovi (son of rock star Jon Bon Jovi) comes onto the scene. After badly missing on his first attempt, Bongiovi’s second shot deflects off the wall and knocks the cup over – an unprecedented trick shot circumstance (the goal is to make the ball in the cup, not knock it over).
His teammates are at first perplexed, but ultimately and begrudgingly name Bongiovi the winner of the USC week edition of Trick Shot Monday because they're not sure what else to do. Suppose picking the cup up, refilling it with water and setting it back on the machine to try again would have been out of the question.
A downtrodden Bongiovi offered only one response to being the default winner: “I've never felt worse about winning something in my life.”
