Bo Pelini on Damore’ea Stringfellow spurning Nebraska for Ole Miss: 'Read between the lines'
Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini has never been afraid to speak his mind, and a comment he made Tuesday has raised some eyebrows.
At Big Ten Media Days in Chicago, Pelini was asked about wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow, who left Washington after the 2013 season when he faced misdemeanor charges in a post-Super Bowl altercation in Seattle. After agreeing to and completing the requirements of a plea deal, Stringfellow decided to transfer, and in early June he verbally committed to Nebraska.
Even after signing scholarship papers to Nebraska, things changed for Stringfellow later in June. He took an official visit to Ole Miss with his mother and officially made his pledge to play for the Rebels on June 20.
Pelini wasn’t pleased with the way things transpired.
“Read between the lines,” Pelini said, per the Omaha World-Herald. “I think we all know what happened in that situation.”
In the world of college football, Pelini’s “read between the lines” comment like that can be perceived to mean a bevy of different things. I won’t put words into Pelini’s mouth, and, in a follow-up question, a reporter asked Pelini if it was frustrating if a parent gets too involved in a player's recruitment.
The coach replied: “Yeah. And especially when it’s a clueless parent.”

Stringfellow was a Top 100 recruit coming out of high school in the class of 2013, and he caught 20 passes for 259 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman, so no matter how it went down, Pelini missed out on a talented player.
