The best Jadeveon Clowney quotes from SEC Media Day

Jadeveon Clowney could very well be the face of the upcoming college football season. The standout South Carolina lineman will be the favorite for every defensive award, a Heisman contender and the likely top pick in the NFL draft.

Clowney’s head coach Steve Spurrier is known for his one-liners and entertaining press conferences, and if Tuesday’s media appearance is any indication, the Gamecocks star has been taking some pointers from the Ol’ Ball Coach. He lit up Twitter and message boards as he called out opposing players and discussed the dietary merits of peanut butter sandwiches.

You can watch part of his question-and-answer session here, but we’ve compiled some of his best quotes for your convenience.

On whether he could tackle Johnny Manziel if the Gamecocks and Aggies were to meet in the SEC Championship Game:

“Can I get him? Yes, I can get him. How do I approach him? Full speed. He gotta make a move. I’m going straight, I make him make a move. I’m going to try to hit him in the mouth.”

On how Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd deals with his instate rival:

“I can tell Tajh Boyd is scared back there. He ain't no sitting duck, but you can see in his eyes that he's scared of our D-linemen. We know that coming into the game that we have him shook already. We get a couple hits on him and it changes the whole game. He's scared every time we play them. I know he's probably listening to this right now, but I'm just telling the truth, man.”

On nutrition:

"I picked up six pounds in two days the other day, eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all day. It was killing my throat. I had to drink a lot of water, but I ate like six peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch and dinner."

On how he stays out of trouble:

"Just stay out of bars and stay off Twitter."

On Tennessee offensive tackle Antonio Richardson:

"He is the best at holding and getting away with it."

On his mentor:

“My mom. Been there since I started this when I was 6 years old, playing football, she’s been by my side the whole way.”

On goals:

"The Heisman's not a big deal to me. Winning the SEC championship's a big deal to me. Getting drafted high's a big deal."

On dealing with antagonism from the opposition:

Jadeveon Clowney said a Florida OL was taunting him about the score when the lineman who was about to block him said "shut up, man!"

On his 40 time: “4.46. It was great, too. Felt good about myself.” (Editor’s note: Clowney weighs 270 pounds. That is not normal.)

Bonus Will Muschamp quote on Clowney, encouraging an early pro career: "I'd like to see him come out early, before our game.”
