This Friday, as you're eating your popcorn and watching your favorite high school football team take the field, you might see something curious flying overhead.
A small plane, with an electronic marquee on the bottom of its wings, has been showing up at various games this year trying to get people to notice its message — Oregon State football, Go Beavs.
That's right, this plane that has been catching a ton of recruiting buzz belongs to Oregon State, which is trying to be an innovator in the college football recruiting game. We've heard of coaches flying to practices and games in private helicopters, but never has a plane been used for promotional purposes in this way.
And the Beavers couldn't have picked a better time to introduce it.
Oregon State is 5-0 for the first time since 1939 and is No. 8 in the latest BCS standings. The Beavers still have a tough schedule, but their play has recruits taking notice. The plane is just an extra — very cool — incentive.
