Ball State former starting QB Ozzie Mann transfers

Ball State quarterback Ozzie Mann has decided to transfer, the school announced.

Mann, a redshirt sophomore, started six games for the Cardinals last season. He completed 116-of-197 passes for 1,281 yards with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions.

"We want to thank Ozzie for his hard work and for representing our program in a first class manner,” Ball State coach Pete Lembo said in statement.  “Depth chart decisions are never easy, but they need to be made.  Ozzie has our full support and we will do whatever we can to help him with this next step in his career."

Mann opened the 2014 season as the Cardinals starting quarterback and went on to start five games before being benched in favor of Jack Miles.

This spring, Mann worked primarily with the second team while Miles took the bulk of the first-team reps.

With Mann gone, Ball State has just Miles and redshirt freshman David Morrison as its quarterbacks with Riley Neal joining the program in the summer.

Mann redshirted in 2012 and played in six games in 2013. He likely will have to sit out a season if he transfers to another FBS program.
