Attorney of LSU's Jalen Mills says Mills did not strike victim

Two days after LSU defensive back Jalen Mills was arrested and charged with second degree battery for allegedly punching a woman in the mouth, Mills’ attorney told the Shreveport Times that it was actually another woman who struck the victim.

“He was not the person who struck the victim,” Mills’ attorney Brent Stockstill said. “That would be consistent with some of the information I’ve received.”

Witnesses have reportedly told Stockstill that both women who were allegedly involved in the incident may have had “romantic interests” in Mills.

“That is what witnesses have said. I am still trying to get his side of the story. There were several people around when this happened,” Stockstill said. “I’ve been contacted by several people that were there when the incident took place. And their version of what happened is not consistent with the arrest warrant.”

Mills, a starting cornerback for the Tigers, was arrested Tuesday night for an incident that occurred at his apartment complex on May 4.

Per the Times, the arrest warrant states that “Mills came from behind and punched (the victim) in her mouth around 2 a.m.” and that the victim, who was momentarily knocked unconscious and needed stiches on her lip, and a witness “picked Mills out of a photographic lineup.”

Mills, who is from the Houston area, was not in Baton Rouge when initially contacted by police on May 29. A meeting was set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the day after LSU’s summer classes began, but Mills did not show up. A warrant was then issued for his arrest and he was detained by police “late Tuesday night.”

Mills is entering his junior season for the Tigers and was third on the team with 67 total tackles last season. He also registered three sacks and three interceptions.

He has been indefinitely suspended by LSU.
