Attorney: Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon 'has done nothing wrong'

Joe Mixon

Oklahoma freshman running back Joe Mixon is still being investigated for an alleged assault of a female OU student early Friday morning, but his attorney is adamant that Mixon is innocent.

The alleged victim, 20-year-old Amelia Rae Molitor, told The Oklahoman that Mixon punched her in the face and broke four bones at a restaurant in Norman. Mixon’s attorney, Kevin Finlay, released a statement Monday evening saying that his client was attacked by a “troubled young woman” and “has done nothing wrong.”

Per SoonerScoop.com, the statement from Finlay, in full, reads:

“This past Friday morning Joe Mixon found himself in a situation where he was subjected to both verbal and physical attacks from a very intoxicated and troubled young woman. As a result of these physical attacks, Joe instinctually defended himself against further harm. As promised, Joe met with investigators from the Norman Police Department this afternoon. Throughout the meeting, Joe continued to be forthcoming and cooperative with their investigation. We are looking forward to a thorough investigation and are very much looking forward to the truth coming out. As we have always maintained, Joe has done nothing wrong.”

As Finlay’s statement detailed, Mixon met with Norman police on Monday. According to SoonerScoop, during his meeting with police, Mixon “requested charges be filed for assault and battery” against Molitor.

Police will continue to interview “all parties involved” before any charges are filed on either side.

Video surveillance of the incident from the restaurant, Pickleman’s Gourmet Café, has been obtained by the Norman Police Department. SoonerScoop is reporting that only the Norman PD had access to the video before Mixon’s attorney’s met with the district attorney’s office Monday “to discuss” the footage.

Additionally, SoonerScoop is reporting that Mixon’s attorneys and the University have requested copies of the video. Oklahoma released a statement saying it is “aware of the matter.”

The incident report from early Friday morning said that a 5-foot-7, 130-pound female “was hit in the face by a male subject” and that she is “intoxicated” and “bleeding from the mouth.”

The Oklahoman obtained and released the 911 call from the incident in which a Pickleman's employee says that "some girl just got clocked in the face." The employee also told the operator that the alleged victim was bleeding "pretty bad."

The 6-foot-2, 211-pound Mixon was the rated five stars by Rivals.com as the top all-purpose back and the 8th-best player in the nation for the 2014 class. He was expected to contribute right away for the Sooners in the fall.
