Alden Darby probably wanted a do-over.
With about 8 minutes remaining in the first half of the National University Holiday Bowl, Darby, Arizona State’s starting safety, was the beneficiary of a muffed punt by Texas Tech and had no one standing between him and an easy score.
But Darby ran the wrong direction.
Instead of heading unabated toward his end zone, Darby ran back into traffic despite several of his teammates yelling at him and point toward their own end zone. When the play ended, Darby retreated back to teammates lamenting his mistake.
Luckily for Darby, his flub was just a minor speed bump. The Sun Devils found the end zone two plays later.
