Four Ohio State players have been suspended for the season opener against Virginia Tech on Sept. 7.

Defensive end Joey Bosa, H-Backs Dontre Wilson and Jalin Marshall and wide receiver Corey Smith will miss the contest after violating Ohio State's Department of Athletics Policy, the school said in a release Thursday.

Of the four, Bosa is probably the biggest loss. Bosa was a consensus All-American last year with 13.5 sacks. He is widely considered one of the top NFL draft picks for 2016. Either Sam Hubbard or Jalyn Holmes, two of the Buckeyes underclassmen, likely will fill Bosa’s role.

Bosa's father John, told the Northwest Ohio Media Group that he agreed with the punishment.

"I fully support Ohio State and I fully support my son," John Bosa told the paper. "Coach Meyer, to his character, has team rules and it doesn't matter who breaks them."
