We're not quite sure yet what to make of the new UConn football helmets, but we will give them points for creativity.

Connecticut is changing its logo and its overall look, with new uniforms (we're sure of those, they look great) and helmets. The Huskies, who put a picture of the helmets and jerseys on their Instagram page, have eschewed the traditional side logo for the front "looking at you" mascot look. Kent State used it in its bowl game last year, and really that one looked kind of creepy.

The UConn look isn't creepy, really. But we're not sure what we think about it.

UMass football is doing its part to honor the victims from the Boston Marathon bombings with helmet stickers for this weekend’s spring game, but coach Charley Molnar, an avid runner, wanted to go the extra mile.

So, at halftime of the spring game, he’s asking people who were not able to finish the Marathon to come out and take a lap around UMass’ McGuirk Alumni Stadium and celebrate their accomplishment by crossing a special finish line set up at the 50-yard line.

College football realignment talk always usually manages to work its way to Notre Dame, and the reasons why the Irish would be a great fit for the Big Ten or whatever other conference.

"Never" is a long time, but it's safe to say Notre Dame will be an independent for a long time. Its relationship with NBC is so good, there's just no reason to change.

Notre Dame, now relevant on the college football scene again after last year's run to the BCS Championship Game, will be on NBC through the 2025 season, at least. The network announced a 10-year extension of the agreement. Notre Dame and NBC have been partners since 1991. All previous extensions were just five years.

Last January, we shared an ambiguous trailer for a documentary about former Arkansas and USC quarterback Mitch Mustain.

The documentary, "The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain,” was supposed to debut at last year’s Little Rock Film Festival. Instead, filmmaker Matthew Wolfe went back to the film room and made what looks like a better product than his initial pitch.

The film chronicles Mustain’s beginnings as the first-ever consensus Gatorade, Parade, and USA Today Player of the Year in high school and the epic collapses that followed. He was the No. 1 quarterback coming out of high school, started 8-0 at Arkansas before being replaced by Casey Dick. He transferred to USC and could never get out of the backup role. He tried his hand at minor league baseball and is now a backup quarterback for the San Jose Sabercats Arena Football team.

It’s a strange story to say the least, but one that will probably pique the interest of college football fans and non-fans alike.

You see, Auburn has a Cam. He's on a first-name basis now and forever. Came in, won a Heisman Trophy and a national title, and still comes back to go to class and pass out donuts to fellow students. Being a football player at Auburn and going by Cam is probably not the wisest move after Mr. Newton's accomplishments. Like if there was a Herschel who wanted to play football for Georgia. He'd probably have to go by Bob or something.

So Artis-Payne will go by Cameron. Consider the name Cam retired at Auburn.

There's only one problem with the video posted by USC athletics that features UCLA football star Jackie Robinson, and the problem is that there aren't a dozen more like it.

This is a great find by USC. Very, very few athletes have ever matched Robinson's accomplishments on the field(s) of play and in the social spectrum as well. His impact is tremendous. A good argument could be made that if multi-sport accomplishments and social impact are included in the argument, Robinson is the greatest American athlete. The popularity of the movie "42" that is out right now will help spread the word to anyone who didn't know enough about Robinson and his impressive life.

The most underrated aspect of Robinson's athletic achievements is his multi-sport ability. Too many people still don't know that way before Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders came along, Jackie Robinson dominated four sports.

Florida State’s quarterbacking situation just got a little clearer.

Quarterback Clint Trickett has opted to transfer just days after Jameis Winston received rave reviews for his efforts in the Seminoles’ spring game.

Trickett, who had been E.J. Manuel’s backup for what seemed like an eternity, started two games and was vying for the coveted job of replacing Manuel who's off to the NFL. Even though Trickett was the most experienced in the quarterbacking group, he wasn’t the most talented. That honor belonged to five-star prospect Winston, who has taken hold of the starting quarterback position. Jacob Coker, who is also competing for the starting spot, is close, but it will be tough for him to overtake Winston unless something drastically changes in the fall.

There is a silver lining for Trickett. He graduates in May and can transfer for grad school and play with an FBS program immediately. Even though he wasn’t the right fit at Florida State, it doesn’t mean he couldn’t be a gem for another program. Trickett started two games, played in 17, and threw for 675 yards and seven touchdowns in 2011 while Manuel was dealing with injuries. He threw for another 272 yards in spot time last season.

Hey, if Danny O’Brien and Jordan Webb can attempt to revive their careers with new teams (notice I said attempt) then there’s no reason some team with an uncertain quarterback situation wouldn’t take a chance on a veteran. Bret Bielema should be calling Trickett any time now.

SPRING GAME REVELATIONS

NO. 3, IRISH FILLING THE MANTI TE'O VOID WITH GRACE

Notre Dame is replacing one of the most decorated defensive players in college football history, a fact that is getting lost a bit because "Manti Te'o" brings about a whole other conversation these days.

Still, replacing a middle linebacker who won seven national awards and almost won the Heisman Trophy is a major storyline for a team that went undefeated last regular season, and should be pretty good again.

So far, there doesn't seem to be a lot of angst about it in South Bend, because Jarrett Grace has made an early impression.
