Maryland hadn't known the word subtle when it came to uniforms - until this week.

(@darrenrovell)Under Armour introduced new "Black Ops" uniforms for Saturday's game against Florida State. The uniforms are black — almost entirely black — and have the Maryland flag in a different charcoal pattern on the shoulder pads and the helmet.

The numbers are yellow with Maryland in red across the front.

Maryland actually wore "White Ops" uniforms for a game at West Virginia earlier this season that weren't too bad, but these are definitely the best of the lot.

Never thought I'd say this about a Maryland uniform, but these are quite slick. They're bold, but unassuming and keep with the tradition of celebrating the state and the flag. Under Armour has really struggled with Maryland's uniforms, but these are definitely a home run.

The Heisman isn't supposed to be a popularity contest, but sometimes it shakes out that way and there's no more popular football player in the country right now than Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Manziel (or Johnny Football) led Texas A&M to an improbable win against No. 1 Alabama and put the Aggies in a position to play for a BCS bowl. No one expected much out of A&M this year with a new coaching staff, new quarterback and new league, but Manziel has helped make the Aggies a relevant force in college football.

But is it enough to send the redshirt freshman to New York? Moreover, is it enough help him hoist the bronze statue?

There are still two games remaining in the season and Manziel, who has been stellar all year, just needs to keep doing what he's been doing. If the Aggies win out, then Manziel is going to New York. If he puts up numbers like he did against the Crimson Tide, it's going to be tough to vote against him.

A senior academics adviser for the Iowa athletic department is at the center of a scandal after being accused of trading football tickets and money for sexual favors from Iowa student-athletes.

Peter Gray, who resigned last Monday, had allegations of sexual misconduct made against him dating back to 1993. He left the Iowa athletic department in 1995 but was allowed to come back in 2002, and several more complaints were filed until his resignation. An Iowa internal investigation revealed that Gray's actions stemmed from inappropriate touching to keeping inappropriate material to asking Iowa student-athletes to perform sexual acts.

Gray also was found to have inappropriate photographs stored on his work computer, including two that involved individuals engaged in sex acts with toys or stuffed animals, numerous pictures of college-aged individuals posing in swimsuits and a few of individuals dressed in underwear, the document states.

But as a very disappointing season for Cal nears its conclusion, Bears athletic director Sandy Barbour told the Contra Costa Times that she will meet with Tedford as soon as Sunday, a day after Cal finishes its season at Oregon State, to discuss his future as football coach.

If that sounds ominous for Tedford, it might be.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly told SiriusXM College Sports Nation that he has no problem going to bat for his team should it stay undefeated by the end of the season.

Currently, the Fighting Irish are one of three undefeated teams fighting to play in the national championship, but they're on the outside looking in while in third place in the BCS standings.
