Highly-recruited running back Altee Tenpenny won’t be back with the Alabama program for the 2015 season.

According to Al.com, Tenpenny tweeted the news on Sunday.

“The past 2 years with the Crimson Tide has been a great experience,” Tenpenny wrote. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything! It’s time to start a new chapter!”

Tenpenny was rated the Rivals.com No. 53 overall recruit in the country in the 2013 class and chose the Crimson Tide over in-state Arkansas. In two seasons with the program, Tenpenny fell behind Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake and T.J Yeldon on the depth chart and rushed for just 218 yards and a score on 48 attempts. He also saw time on special teams.

Though Yeldon is off to the NFL, Henry and Drake will return along with Tyren Jones and freshmen Bo Scarbrough and Damien Harris. The backfield is extremely crowded, so a transfer for Tenpenny to get more playing time certainly makes sense.

If a transfer does come to fruition for Tenpenny, he would have to sit out a season due to NCAA transfer rules. He’d then have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
