The Air Force Academy announced Tuesday afternoon that all intercollegiate athletics will resume immediately in the midst of the ongoing Federal government shutdown. Air Force is awaiting a final written decision from the Department of Defense, but have been advised that athletics may resume.
The status of Air Force's Thursday night game with San Diego State in Colorado Springs had been in question, but it's now a go with the statement released by the Academy today.
"The Academy is awaiting written final Department of Defense guidance, however, we have been advised that all Air Force Academy intercollegiate athletics may resume immediately," the statement said. "We owe it to our cadet athletes and opponents to honor our commitments in this regard. Athletics is one of the pillars of character and leadership development at the Air Force Academy. No appropriated funds will be used to fund these programs."
