Wichita State became the first team in college history to start a season 30-0 in the regular season on Tuesday by beating Bradley 69-49 on the road.
The second-ranked Shockers have a chance to finish the regular season undefeated on Saturday when they host Missouri State.
The 2003-04 St. Joe's Hawks were last Division I college team to finish the regular season undefeated, going 27-0 before losing in the A-10 Conference tournament. The last team to start 30-0 in a season was the 1990-91 UNLV Runnin Rebels who advanced to the national semifinals before losing to Duke and finishing 34-1.
The Shockers advanced to the Final Four last season and they're looking even stronger this year having easily sewn up the Missouri Valley Conference. The win over Bradley improved Wichita State's conference record to 17-0, tying the 1983 Wichita State team's school record for wins in a season in MVC play.
Only three of Wichita State's conference games have been decided by single-digit margins. The Shockers played the bulk of the second half against Bradley leading by double digits.
Four of the five Wichita State starters scored in double figures, led by Ron Baker who scored 15 with six rebounds and four assists. Tekele Cotton had a very similar line in the box score finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
