Buzz Williams was officially hired by Virginia Tech on Friday and it looks like it will take some time before the Hokies get used to Williams leading the program.

When making the hire official with a press release, the staff directory of the Virginia Tech athletics website was also updated with information about Williams’ past stops and accomplishments. Of course, a photo of Williams was included too – except there was one problem. The photo used was not a picture of Williams.

Instead of using a photo of Williams, a picture of Williams’ former assistant Scott Monarch was used. Monarch was an assistant under Williams at Marquette from 2009-2012 before being fired for committing a recruiting violation in 2012.

Monarch reportedly “gave team-issued apparel and provided transportation to an unnamed recruit,” then was “untruthful with department administrators on multiple occasions” after the violations were discovered. Monarch was then hired as an assistant at North Texas in 2013.

Although the two coaches do look pretty similar, I am still trying to wrap my head around how that mistake (which has since been fixed) could have been made. Someone will have some explaining to do.
