Players and coaches from UConn and Maryland Eastern Shore paid tribute to victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shootings prior to tonight's game at the XL Center in Hartford. The UConn women's team plans a similar pregame tribute prior to its game Wednesday against Oakland in the same venue

Both UConn teams will wear patches on their uniforms for the rest of the season honoring the victims of the mass shooting last Friday. The patches are mostly green with a black outline and white letters "SH." The school colors of Sandy Hook elementary are green and white.

Coaches and players held candles and some players also wrote the elementary school's initials on themselves prior to the game.

UConn also announced it has established a memorial scholarship fund in honor of the victims. The New Haven Register reported Geno Auriemma and his wife, Kathy, made the first contribution of $80,000.

"Over this past difficult weekend, Kathy and I gave much consideration to what we as a family could do that would have some significance for the future," Auriemma says. "Because UConn is so important to us, we decided to establish a scholarship and encourage other UConn alumni, friends and fans around the world to invest in the future of the Sandy Hook survivors."

Classy moves all around by everyone at UConn, especially the Auriemmas.
